How I Stayed On Track During Vacation
I'm pretty much just going to be documenting each day that I'm away from home in a journalling format. If you don't like reading about each of my days, you might want to stop here. I thought it'd be a good idea to just show you guys how I stay on track when I'm on a vacation and that it IS possible to stay on top of things with your nutrition and training if that's what your goals are. If you don't care as much, then don't put as much effort into it on your vacation. It all depends on your goals!
Day 1 - Woke up at 3am to catch 6am flight.. then another flight to Vegas, which gets us to our flight to Wyoming. I will go ahead and admit this day was pretty much a fail on the macros-side of things. My airport breakfast was a Chobani yogurt and my airport lunch was a chicken salad from Moe's. I had a small apple once we landed in Wyoming. I had a banana before I worked out and a protein + carb shake after I worked out. By this time it was already dinner time and I had my usual chicken, rice, and squash mixture. I was VERY short on calories by the end of the day but was so exhausted from traveling and had no appetite whatsoever.
Day 2 - Woke up at 6:30am because clearly my body is confused. Guzzled water because #health... also drank some coffee because #caffeine. I brought my own tortilla wraps (they don't sell them in Wyoming), oatmeal, and natural calm magnesium from home. I made my usual breakfast egg wrap and oatmeal for breakfast. Notice this is what I normally have at home.. I love my normal foods and try to stick to things I'm used to even when traveling! I also packed my daily vitamins along with pre-portioned baggies of my post workout protein +carb mixture!
We went to a local grocery store after breakfast and I picked up some peanut butter, perfect bars, kombucha, fruit, and vegetables! Once we got back to the house, I had an apple for pre workout and I walked to the super nice CrossFit gym here, CrossFit 307. It's only a mile away so it gives me a chance to get some fresh air and walk outside to get some activity! After I worked out, I walked back to my aunt's house and had my post workout protein + carb shake and I made a meal right afterwards. It was a big salad with mixed greens, onion, tomato, grilled chicken, and jasmine rice. Yes, rice. I had never put it in a salad until this day and it was SO good. Definitely recommend. I used a strawberry poppyseed yogurt dressing for that and had a pineapple peach kombucha because #guthealth. Sorry if the hashtags are annoying.. #butnotreally.
I did some homework while I was eating lunch because I'm almost done with some online courses, then did some running intervals in the neighborhood, came back, and ate an almond acai perfect bar. They are my favorite! For dinner I plan on having the usual jasmine rice, chicken, and veggie mixture. My aunt and uncle are very understanding of how I eat and basically had my normal foods already here when we got here! I ended up having macros left to have 1.25 servings of mint oreo ice cream!
Day 3 - Another 6:30am wake up.. meh. I never wake up this early but I guess it's just the time zone change. I had my usual breakfast this morning (shocker) and did some school work. Almost finished with my classes! My post workout shake, post workout meal (late lunch), and dinner were the same! We did a lot of riding around today in Wyoming looking at really big, pretty houses and just looking at the scenery! I'm wiped completely out. Not a lot to say for day 3!
Day 4 - 5:45am wake up.. I'm definitely starting to feel sleep deprived, haha. My body just won't let me sleep! I had oatmeal with peanut butter for breakfast, then went on a short neighborhood walk with my mom. We all went to church and then I ate a salad when I got back to the house for lunch with some kombucha! Our flight departs at 6:06pm for Las Vegas (woop woop!) so we're going to head to the airport around 4:30 or so. Once we got to Vegas, we got our rental car and headed to the store to get some groceries and things like that for our hotel room. We're staying at the Elara at Hilton Grand Vacations. Our room is SO nice and we have a full kitchen!
Above is our stocked fridge! ;)
Day 5 - Finally slept in a little til 7:30 today! Got up and ate breakfast which was oatmeal and some banana. I found a CrossFit gym to go to around 11am, CrossFit 622! It was an awesome gym and the owners were awesome! Later that evening after I went to the pool, we basically just walked around shops and casinos to look around the city. SO. MUCH. WALKING! We met up with some relatives and then went to Walmart because ice cream ;) ... I had lots of macros to fill at night so I had a good serving of ben and jerry's!
Day 6 - 7:30 wake up, had to leave earlier for the gym this morning because it closed earlier for the 4th of July. After I worked out, I went by the pool at our resort and caught some sun rays for a few hours. It was so hot!! Around 110 degrees but at least there's hardly any humidity in Vegas! After the pool, my family and I ate an "early" dinner in the hotel room and did some more walking around the city. We went to an outdoor mall in Henderson and stayed there until fireworks went off. They had a ben and jerry's at this outdoor mall so I got some this night, too! #priorities
Day 7 - Ahhh last day here in Vegas! Ate my normal breakfast, went on a short walk, then headed to the gym! Finished my workout and went to Hoover Dam with my family and walked around. It was almost 120-125 degrees up there! IT WAS SO HOT. When we got back to the room I ate a late lunch and then we went to walk around some shops in our resort. It was basically an indoor mall! After that we walked around on the strip for a little bit #alltheactivity, came back to the hotel room with my aunt and cousin, talked and had some ice cream, then I went to bed kinda early because we had to wake up early for our flight back home.
Ok I think that about wraps it up. I'm sorry if this post bored you to tears. If it didn't, great! I'm glad you liked it! It was kinda fun to write about all of this in a journal-esque manner. I just wanted to document the trip and show you that you don't have to throw all of your goals out of the window when you're not at home in your normal routine. I'm definitely a creature of habit and thrive in my routine but it was nice to get away for a little bit. The days when we were flying all day were the hardest to get all my macros in for sure. I'd be short on protein and carbs most of the time, no doubt. Last night after we finally got back, I had a lot of calories left so I just didn't track anything the rest of the night but had a pretty good idea of what I needed to eat in order to get semi close to my calories for the day. It doesn't need to be super complicated!
I'm just glad to be back home now and back into somewhat of a routine again. Feeling some sleep deprivation but that'll be back to normal in a day or two. Not going to sweat it. Hope this documentation helped you out!
